Madison tells the story of her friend, Zoe, coming to visit from Kansas City.   Zoe was thrilled to be in California and couldn’t wait to party with “cool Silicon Valley guys.” Madison opined that was an oxymoron. She claimed the boys in The Valley were just like High School or big  Private Party sex orgy jerks (see: Vanity Fair)

Zoe suggested having a party in the apartment Rec Room and to put up signs and balloons. Madison rolled her eyes and said that was “way too Mid West.” Not one to take “No” to party planning – Zoe was full steam ahead and placed Party Invites on various bulletin boards around the huge apartment complex and encouraged  Madison to text all her friends. Let’s party!

Green when it comes to dating?

herd of cattle in daytime

Henry and Jeff are twins, 52, single again and looking for new wives.  One brother is divorced and the other is a widow of long standing. The brothers run the family ranch near Gilroy and recently sold hundred-plus acres to a Google majordomo. They made a ton of money- and are beginning to downsize and re-think Life 101.

To say they’re laughing all the way to the bank only begins to describe their glee.   On a whim, Jeff decided to get a grip on Dating 2018. He had heard about a famous blonde San Francisco matchmaker. She and her mother advertise their services in slick, glitzy magazines. His curiousity was piqued. Jeff may be in ranching – he is no hayseed. A Stanford grad – Henry attended college 20 miles away at Santa Clara University – both men are savvy and a little shy in the female department.

The twins share a wonderful childhood friend, MarieK. She quickly voted down the Tres cher City Slicker Matchmakers and nominated herself the conduit for dating and meeting new single women. The men were curious about Tinder and MarieK. quickly steered them away – and urged them to take it slow and easy. In one day, she had both men signed up for Match.com.

She took the photos, wrote the profiles and helped with the byzantine questions. In no time, women from all over the Unites States reached out to the men. They were aghast and  tickled by the landslide of attention. To say it was a feeding frenzy is no lie.

Their dating guru advised them to delete all women from Alabama, Arkansas and Alaska. Nigeria, too. Frankly, she said out-of-state dates are too much trouble and rarely develop. So, the men are sifting through winks, notes, IM’s and getting a grasp.

Next week: An Update on the Dating Twins.

His photo on Tinder gave pause

Shelia was thrilled to be up and running on Tinder.

She had dabbled on EHarmony and Match.com and grew tired of the back and forth messaging- she dubbed both sites “all talk no action.”

Her 30-year old neice, Patsy, bragged about her dozens of dates on Tinder. Patsy was out every night and her dating domain was Rosewood in Palo Alto.

Shelia got the Cliff Notes from her neice: they discussed “age and distance” and set up the account. Daters over 30 pay $19.99 to get in the game.  She would swipe Right if she liked the guy – swipe Left to reject.

The photos of the men in Shelia’s age group were eclectic. There was the stout guy without a shirt, a guy wearing a lampshade, a man and his gun, and an old photo of #45.

She had reservations about going forward. Confused by the barrage of bizarro boys, she let her neice handle her foray in Tinder World.

In two weeks time, Shelia bragged and called herself a Tinder heart. She had ten dates with a wide variety of men. Her acuity in Swiping was much improved. She readily admits 50% of the guys were looking for a one night stand. The novelly waned.

Fortunately, she ran into George at Whole Foods, in a very long check out line, and a connection happened. Just like that. She encourages smiling at strangers. A lot.

My first Tinder trap: one woman’s tale

13606513_10154460649960809_3178931224426827348_n

On a dare, I tried Tinder.

Like everybody else, I read the scathing Vanity Fair article, Tinder is the Night.

Skanky accounts of Strangers in the Night hooking up for a quick tryst and “Hit him and Quit him” were pretty revolting.

Boys Just Want to Have Sex

My former college roommate is now a Stanford PhD and has a passel of millennials on her couch lamenting the SillyCon Valley Social Scene. This highly educated, very professional, and uber-smart, married woman dared me to try Tinder. (Note: at one time, said PhD was a table top dancing, lampshade-wearing party girl)

Let it be said, three Moscow Mules can erase inhibitions.

We were up and running and signed in and within five minutes, the aforepictured guy appears. Obviously, Matt Damon, George  Clooney were busy.

We howled. This had to be a joke.

And, indeed it was. Mr Funny Photo is a rockstar writer on the fabulous site, Medium.

He, too, was playing in the shallow end at Tinder.
